“We do not dance. We do natya. Natya involves all parts of the self: the mind, body, and spirit. Natya elevates not only the dancer but the audience as well.”
“What came before tradition? There was only innovation…” – Anonymous
These ideas propel Navatman Dance, an Indian classical dance company (specifically stemming from bharatanatyam) based in New York City whose mission is to bring extraordinary, boundary-pushing productions to the stage, making Indian classical dance more accessible to both understand and experience without removing the beauties of tradition and history that the style has developed from.
Sahasra Sambamoorthi's next full length production is called "Krishna the Blue Eyed Boy". Based on the loving personality of this deity, Sahasra draws from Krishna's playful side in a fun, entertaining ballet.
Navatman Dance will be touring in March/April/May of 2013. The annual season will be September 2013.
