Classes for children under the age of 6 are meant to be fun learning programs that introduce them to the world of Indian dance and music without the pressure of a intensive experience. Class size is kept small, averaging around 5 students. As of now, these classes take place in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Classes are set up in 10 week semesters, running around $200 - $250 per semester. If students will be taking time off for travel, etc please consult their teacher regarding their policies. First time Anamika-Navatman students do get trial classes, so please email classes@navatman.org if interested! For this age range, we currently offer: Please click here for classes for children above the age of six. ![]() Little Ustaads (Ages 0-4) Little Ustaads allows children (0 – 3.5 years) and parents to discover and appreciate the world of Indian classical music through rhythmic tunes, rich vocals, mini instruments and vibrant visuals.
Thodas for toddlers, chakkars for kids, jathis for juniors: bring it all together, it's time to dance! Enter a world of dancing peacocks, magical flutes and tinkling bells. Created by founders from Anamika-Navatman and Little Ustaads, this creative Indian classical music and dance program is for children from 4-6 years of age. This is the perfect introduction for your child to learn the basics of different Indian dance forms in a fun and interactive manner. Through yoga, storytelling, movement, and music, children will be exposed to different aspects of Indian classical dance forms. From spinning to footwork to expression and rhythm, this primer course will open up Indian arts to your children.
This music class is a primer for any child who wants to learn or be introduced to Indian classical music - whether it be instrumental or vocal. Each class consists of games and exercises to expand their knowledge of pitch, rhythmical sense, and tonality, while also mixing serious instruction in the practice of paltas/sarali varasais in both vocal and instrumental terms.
**Advanced level pre-K classe, which are geared more towards proper technique and preparation for rigorous learning, as opposed to Ta Dheem and Little Gurus which are primer courses meant to introduce children to Indian music and dance, are held throughout the year.
